Overview

This packet is a routing and source-control dossier for the transcribed files in:

• MegaLetters.

It was created on 2026-05-23 after reviewing the actual root Doc_*.md files on disk and has now been updated through the current Doc_116-129 additions. It does not replace diplomatic transcription from the manuscript images. Its function is to prevent future AI passes from mixing rough transcription, stale script metadata, printed Winwood overlap, true manuscript-source leads, and newer State Papers / Hatfield House additions.

Source-Control Verdict

• The root MegaLetters folder currently contains 100 root Doc_*.md transcription files, checked on 2026-05-29.
• The older audit JSON/report layer includes references to Doc_10_PRO_024-032.md and Doc_11_PRO_029.md, but those two root files are not currently present in the folder. Treat older Doc_10/Doc_11 claims as stale until the files are restored or remapped.
• The root sequence also skips Doc_60.
• The folder has grown since this dossier's first 2026-05-23 routing pass. Newer root files include Anne Neville / Windebank and Cecil items (Doc_116-Doc_120) and a PRO 30/50/4 custody-access run (Doc_121-Doc_129).
• Several documents are copies of, or closely overlap with, material printed in Winwood's Memorials or already staged in the local letter packets. For these, cite Winwood or the established letter packet first and MegaLetters second as a manuscript/copy witness.
• Several other documents are incoming letters to Neville or surrounding diplomatic papers. They are not Neville-authored letters, but they are still valuable for reconstructing his ambassadorial working environment.
• The second run, Doc_101 through Doc_115, is the Italian newsletter / Alibech-Rustico material connected to PRO 30/50/70/2. These are important for the Othello-newsletter packet and the Boccaccio/Decameron scribble packet.
• The Doc_116-120 Anne Neville letters are no longer only a Gmail/Twitter/source-image lead. Working visual transcriptions now exist in MegaLetters and should be routed to the Anne Neville surviving-letters packet, with image collation still required before final quotation.
• The Doc_121-129 PRO 30/50/4 sequence is the current best local routing layer for Neville's March-April 1601 Chelsea custody access: Lock/Locke, Nottingham, Cecil, Thomas Lake, Winwood, Lady Neville, Lothbury visits, papers, cipher, and financial reckoning.
• This packet moved from draft to needs_review because the current root-file count and Doc_116-129 routing gap have been resolved at dossier level. It remains mixed because many entries are working transcriptions, not image-collated diplomatic texts.

2. Author, Date, and Metadata Errors Found

• Doc_26_PRO_077-079.md: previously misread as an Anne Neville letter. The file now correctly flags it as Henry Savile to Sir Henry Neville, dated 21 February 1599/1600.
• Doc_30_PRO_088-089.md: older script metadata apparently misattributed it to George Gilpin, Neville, or Henry Savile. The corrected file summary and image note read the signature as H: Killigrew; treat it as Henry Killigrew to Sir Henry Neville, London, 6 March 1599/1600, unless a later image audit overturns the reading.
• Doc_34_PRO_097-098.md: the root file has now been corrected to Robert Drury, 6 May 1600, matching the blog/Zurcher lane. Older generated reports that call it Ralph Winwood or date it 5 May 1600 are stale. The remaining task is a proper diplomatic transcription from the manuscript image, not a sender/date reclassification from the old rough summary.
• Doc_39_PRO_109-110.md: the Exchequer/plate entry mentions Henrici Nevell militis and an embassy in France, but the chronology ("lost in France 37 years earlier" in the rough summary layer) may point away from Henry Neville 1563-1615 or toward an older record. Treat as an identity-warning document.
• Doc_51_PRO_143-144.md and Doc_52_PRO_145-146.md: the local summary notes a mismatched cover leaf / letter problem. They belong together but should not be cited as a clean single witness without checking the images.
• Doc_54_PRO_152-155.md: the root file now identifies the writer as John Holles, not Winwood; older generated reports that call this a Winwood letter are stale. The file gives Lyons this 13 of Aprill; the year is still not stable across audit layers, so use only 13 April plus context until catalog/image evidence pins the year.
• Doc_101-114: FROM: Venice Newsletter, FROM: Rome Newsletter, and FROM: Antwerp Newsletter are source-place labels, not personal authors.
• Doc_115_PRO_Alibech_righe_side-alibech_crop.md: FROM: Boccaccio is not a literal sender. This is a reverse-side scribble/newsletter fragment invoking Boccaccio's Alibech/Rustico material.
• Doc_116-120: these are Anne Neville letters or Anne Neville-associated State Papers / Hatfield House copies. They should correct, not revive, the older Doc_26 / Doc_35 Anne-misattribution problem.
• Doc_122: body and docket involve both Thomas Lake and Neville's French household administration. Do not collapse it into the Zachary Lock custody lane; Lake is the administrative recipient here.
• Doc_123: the root transcription corrects an older addressee confusion and routes the body to Zachary Lock/Locke at Chelsea.
• Doc_124-129: these are custody/access warrants or orders. Do not treat them as Neville-authored letters.

4. Key Additions Made From This Pass

• Doc_5 and Doc_23 strengthen Neville's pre-departure ambassadorial network formation: he is already coordinating Edmondes/Gilpin, house logistics, intelligence exchange, and cipher before reaching Paris.
• Doc_26 and Doc_35 form the small Henry Savile-to-Neville correspondence cluster during the French embassy. Doc_30 has now been removed from that Savile cluster and routed to Henry Killigrew / Neville family-diplomatic correspondence.
• Doc_36 deserves its own topic because Beza uses Neville as a publication-and-transmission node for a packet and four newly printed books connected with English gentlemen traveling to Italy.
• Doc_34 strengthens the Fludd/Southampton packet; the root file has now been corrected to Robert Drury and 6 May 1600, while older generated reports remain stale.
• Doc_46 should be quarantined as a mapping problem: the English Barbary-prisoners text must be controlled from the Neville Letters XML / O'Donnell-style transcription until the image witness is remapped.
• Doc_51-53 and Doc_57-59 strengthen the trade-law packet as a real source cluster, not a single example.
• Doc_101-115 should be treated as local staging of the Italian newsletter sequence and the Alibech/Rustico scribble material.
• Doc_116-120 add a compact Anne Neville imprisonment/advocacy cluster: two Windebank letters and three Cecil/Hatfield letters. These should update the Anne Neville surviving-letters packet from "images located, no transcription" to "working visual transcriptions exist, but final image collation and catalogue matching remain open."
• Doc_121-129 add a compact custody-access sequence that should be routed through zachary_lock_neville_custody_access.md: Chelsea custody, access to writings and ciphered Winwood correspondence, Lady Neville's private visits, Lothbury illness visits, and financial reckoning after the recalled embassy.
• Doc_122 should also feed the ambassador aftermath lane because it states that Neville was unlikely to return to his French charge and that Winwood should remain until further direction.

6. Notes on Access

• Use this dossier as a routing layer. Do not use it as final transcription authority.
• For Neville-authored passages also printed in Winwood, prefer the printed Winwood witness and the local Winwood source map.
• For incoming letters and manuscript-only items, quote exact wording only after image review.
• For the Italian newsletter sequence, reconcile the Doc_101-114 local files with the TNA record's "sixteen newsletters" count before claiming completeness.
• For Doc_116-129, the MegaLetters markdown says the transcriptions were made visually from manuscript images. Treat them as much stronger than OCR or tweet-derived leads, but still not final diplomatic transcriptions until line-by-line image collation is done.
• Keep this dossier distinct from the BRO/Royal Berkshire Doc_*.md corpus. Both use Doc_ numbering, but they are different local collections.
