First Folio Tweet Threads
Mixed Needs Review source map packet
Topic: First Folio Tweet Threads
Overview
This packet is a source-control map for Ken Feinstein's preserved First Folio tweet threads. It is not a proof packet for the First Folio argument. It should route each tweet claim to a dedicated evidence packet and prevent the broad synthesis claims from being used in book prose without source hardening.
Source-Control Update, 2026-05-29
- Promoted from
lead_packet/lead/drafttosource_map_packet/mixed/needs_review. - The verified layer is the basic First Folio bibliographical baseline from current Folger pages.
- The Neville-facing layer remains mixed: some strands now have dedicated evidence packets, while others remain tweet-level or image-led leads.
- A sweep of
[local source path removed]for First Folio, Jonson, Herbert, Jaggard, Blount, Walkley, Heminges, Condell, Digges, Mabbe, Holland, Windebank, Sonnets, Othello, Virginia, and posterity found no direct BRO transcription witness for this First Folio synthesis lane.Doc_73is only grouped as a screenshot of printed Ben Jonson text; no directDoc_73Markdown transcription file is currently present. - The Leonard Digges strand is now routed through leonard_digges.md: local EarlyPrint
A11954controls his 1623 First Folio poem, localA12034controls his 1640 Benson Poems witness, Shakespeare Documented controls the 1613 Lope/Sonnets flyleaf note, and the older Dudley-Digges-First-Folio-poem wording is quarantined as false. - The Hugh Holland strand is now routed through hugh_holland.md: local EarlyPrint
A11954controls his 1623 First Folio poem, localA19383controls a 1611 Coryate-prelims / Odcombian banquet Holland witness, and O'Callaghan/Neuhauser control the Convivium/Sireniacal context. - The James Mabbe strand is now routed through james_mabbe.md: local EarlyPrint
A11954controls the First Folio poem signedI.M., localA16053controls Mabbe's Blount-published The Rogue with commendatory poems signedLeo: DiggsandBen: Ionson, and Shakespeare Documented controls the 1613 Lope/BalliolMr Mab:note. The First Folio witness itself prints initials, not the full name James Mabbe. - The Ben Jonson strand is now routed through ben_jonson.md: local EarlyPrint
A11954controls the First FolioTo the Readerpoem signedB.I.and the longer "To the memory of my beloued..." encomium signedBEN: IONSON; localA04632controls the 1616CIX. TO SIR HENRY NEVILepigram. No direct BRO witness was found;Doc_73remains excluded as removed screenshot metadata.
Source-Control Update, 2026-06-20
- Added a direct page-image packet for the Herbert dedication and Jonson front-matter/epigram lanes: SOURCE_NOTES.md.
- Added a second direct page-image packet for Hugh Holland, Leonard Digges, and the
I.M.prefatory poem: SOURCE_NOTES.md. - The Herbert dedication lane now has 1623 page-image controls from the Archive/Boston Public Library Barton First Folio, including the dedication opening and the
Orphanes, Guardianscontinuation. - The Ben Jonson lane now has 1623 First Folio page images for
To the Readerand the long Shakespeare encomium, plus 1616 Jonson folio page images forCIX. To Sir Henry Nevil. - The Leonard Digges, Hugh Holland, and
I.M.First Folio lanes now have direct Archive/BPL page-image controls for their 1623 signatures/headings. Remaining Chapter 20 image work should prioritize colophon/publisher-charge details, copy-comparison checks, Digges's 1640 Benson poem, Holland's Coryate/Convivium witnesses, Mabbe's Rogue preliminaries, and the Balliol flyleaf note.
Worker A Source-Control Check, 2026-05-30
- Rechecked the owned First Folio/publication batch against
[local source path removed]. No new direct BRO witness was found for the First Folio synthesis, the Herbert dedication, Jaggard, Edward Blount, Windebank provenance, or Anne Neville's alleged Folio role. - Negative BRO controls are meaningful but narrow: there are no
Windebank/Windebankehits and noJaggard/Iaggard/Astrologomaniahits; theBlunthit is a later Florence letter phrase,S^r H. Blunts order, not Edward Blount;Doc_73remains removed screenshot metadata, not an archival transcription. - Rechecked local EarlyPrint controls for the owned batch:
A11954controls the First Folio title/dedication layer,A00303controls the 1610 Healey/Florio/Blunt-Barret issue,A17971controls the 1624 Astrologomania imprint,A04766controls the 1622 Anne Neuill dedication layer, andA14521controls the 1620 Virginia Company accounting list. - Use this packet only as routing. The controlling citations remain the dedicated evidence packets plus final page-image collation where still open.

Tweet Claim Routing
| Tweet strand | Current routing | Current control status |
|---|---|---|
| Ben Jonson's First Folio poems and epigram to Henry Neville / "posterity" | ben_jonson.md | Local A11954 controls the First Folio B.I. and BEN: IONSON poems; local A04632 controls the 1616 Henry Nevil epigram. The 2026-06-20 image packet adds direct page-image controls for both lanes. Mourning, secrecy, or Folio-management readings remain interpretation. |
| Herbert brothers as First Folio dedicatees and Neville-network figures | herbert_brothers.md | Packet now has EarlyPrint/TCP and direct Archive/BPL 1623 page-image control for the dedication, quarantines the older Philip-Herbert wardship error, and routes Virginia Company claims through the hardened charter/A14521 distinction: Pembroke is in the checked 1609 resident-council list, while Montgomery is in the wider company/adventurer lists. |
| Windebank family inscription/provenance route | francis_windebanks_first_folio.md and windebank_family_network.md | Inscription layer now mixed/evidence-controlled; Neville-to-Windebank transmission remains unproven. |
| Walkley 1619 A King and No King and 1622 Othello | a_king_and_no_king_1619_walkley_nevill.md | Documented 1619 Walkley/Neville dedication plus separate 1621/1622 Walkley/Othello publication facts; manuscript continuity remains open. |
| William Jaggard and the 1624 Carleton/Chamber book | william_jaggard.md plus Carleton/Chamber packets | Now source-mapped; relation to First Folio remains unresolved unless the 1624 book is directly tied to 1623 production. |
| Edward Blount publication network | edward_blount.md | Now source-mapped; First Folio title/register role and 1610/1616 Healey controls are anchored, broader Neville/Folio inference remains open. |
| Anne Killigrew Neville as possible literary-estate manager | anne_killigrew_neville_first_folio_literary_estate.md | Now source-mapped: direct Anne letter, cabinet-key, estate, and BRO household controls exist, but no direct source yet shows First Folio compilation/publication involvement. |
| Nicholas L'Estrange Shakespeare/Jonson and Herbert anecdotes | nicholas_lestrange_manuscript_and_neville_family_shakespeare_anecdotes.md | Real anecdote/source trail; Photos/Lippincott now supplies a printed-edition control for jest 69, a Sir William Herbert anecdote sourced to Mr Wil: Nevill. Keep it separate from jest 535, the Jenkins/Pembroke-Montgomery lane. |
| Milton First Folio reception threads | miltons_first_folio_and_second_folio_reception_chain.md | Reception-history lane; not direct evidence for 1623 Neville involvement. |
| Donne/Basse Shakespeare memorial poem route | john_donnes_son_william_basse_and_shakespeare_memorial_poem.md | Reception-history route only: local A69225 controls the 1633 Donne-print placement, local A12034 controls the 1640 Benson Shakespeare memorial frame, and Folger/DigitalDonne/Cambridge controls keep the Basse-versus-Donne attribution problem separate from First Folio production. |
| Leonard Digges First Folio and early Shakespeare reception strand | leonard_digges.md | Local EarlyPrint A11954 and the 2026-06-20 Archive/BPL image packet control the 1623 L. Digges First Folio poem; A12034 controls the 1640 Leon: Digges poem; Shakespeare Documented controls the 1613 Lope/Sonnets note. Dudley Digges is not a First Folio prefatory poet in the checked witness. |
| Hugh Holland First Folio and Convivium/Sireniacal strand | hugh_holland.md | Local EarlyPrint A11954 and the 2026-06-20 Archive/BPL image packet control Hvgh Holland and the First Folio poem heading; A19383 controls a 1611 Coryate-prelims witness signed Hugo Holland Cambrobritannus; O'Callaghan/Neuhauser control the Convivium/Sireniacal context. This is network overlap, not proof of Folio planning. |
James Mabbe / I.M. First Folio strand | james_mabbe.md | Local EarlyPrint A11954 and the 2026-06-20 Archive/BPL image packet control the First Folio poem signed I.M. and headed "To the memorie of M. W. Shakespeare"; the James Mabbe attribution remains scholarly, supported by Hadfield/Secord-style secondary controls and by Mabbe's direct Digges/Jonson/Blount Spanish-literary network in A16053. No direct Neville route found. |
| Star Chamber / source-book / Southampton / Virginia Company synthesis claims | Dedicated play, source-book, Essex/Southampton, and Virginia Company packets | Do not cite from this synthesis packet; route to hardened subject packets first. |
Claims Demoted Or Held
- Do not cite this packet for the claim that Ben Jonson "managed" the First Folio or "maintained secrecy" for Neville. That remains a Ken interpretation, not a sourced fact in this packet.
- Use ben_jonson.md for the direct Jonson controls; this source-map packet should not be the controlling citation for Jonson quotations.
- Do not cite this packet for the claim that Philip Herbert purchased the wardship of Neville's grandson. Current Herbert/Henry Neville III source control points to William Herbert / Pembroke unless a separate source proves otherwise.
- Do not cite this packet for Anne Killigrew Neville compiling, managing, or publishing the First Folio. Current direct evidence has not been isolated.
- Do not cite this packet for a direct Neville-family manuscript route into Othello Q1 or the First Folio. The Walkley/Neville corridor is documented, but the manuscript route remains open.
- Do not cite this packet for a direct First Folio production role for Neville's descendants. Route each descendant/publication claim to its dedicated packet first.
- Do not cite this packet, the overlap matrix, or older book drafts for the claim that Dudley Digges wrote a First Folio prefatory poem. The checked Digges witness in First Folio front matter is Leonard Digges.
- Do not cite Hugh Holland's Convivium/Sireniacal overlap as evidence that he helped compile, arrange, or conceal the First Folio. The checked lane supports proximity and literary-network evidence only.
- Do not say the First Folio names James Mabbe in full. The direct
A11954witness printsI.M.; James Mabbe is the attribution layer. - Do not use tweet images as evidence unless they are mapped to exact printed-page, manuscript, catalogue, or image witnesses.

Notes on Access
- Use this packet to route work, not as the final evidentiary basis for a claim.
- Chapter 20's local STATUS.md should be updated to reflect the two
2026-06-20page-image packets for the Herbert dedication, Jonson First Folio poems, Jonson's 1616 Nevil epigram, Hugh Holland, Leonard Digges, andI.M. - Leonard Digges now has direct First Folio page-image collation; remaining image work is the 1640 Benson poem and the Balliol flyleaf note.
- Hugh Holland now has direct First Folio page-image collation; remaining image work is the original Coryats Crudities front matter and the Convivium manuscript list.
- James Mabbe /
I.M.now has direct First Folio page-image collation for the initials-only witness; Secord's 1948 article still needs checking before the attribution is treated as fully hardened. - The local tweet file includes additional Milton First Folio reception threads from September and October
2019; those belong in the Milton reception packet, not the 1623 production lane. - No direct BRO transcription witness has been incorporated for this synthesis lane.

Fact-Source Update, 2026-06-24
- Shakespeare Documented's
8 November 1623Stationers' Register entry is the cleanest current public control for the Blount/Isaac Jaggard registration of the First Folio's sixteen not-previously-entered plays. - Folger's Troilus and Cressida page is important for Folio routing because it explains the play's irregular First Folio placement and Catalogue omission. This gives the Troilus/First Folio lane a fact-based source rather than leaving it as tweet-level inference.
- This pass adds no new direct Anne Killigrew, Windebank, or Neville household paper route into Folio production. Those remain separate provenance or estate-management leads, not Folio-making evidence.
