2026-07-09 Routing-Map Expansion

This packet is now ready as a routing map. That status does not promote the broad First Folio/Neville synthesis to established fact. It means each major thread in the preserved tweet material has a named destination, source status, and explicit limit. The new FIRST FOLIO NETWORK AND HORSE CONTEXT SOURCE PASS 2026 07 09 closes four previously listed gaps: Secord’s Mabbe attribution article, the Balliol Digges/Mabbe flyleaf image, Digges’s 1640 poem images, and Holland’s original 1611 Coryats Crudities pages. It also adds original page images for the Digges–Jonson–Blount paratext in Mabbe’s The Rogue.

Why the new Mabbe/Digges/Holland material matters

The direct sources create a more precise network than the tweets alone could provide:

1. The First Folio places Holland, Digges, and I.M. in its printed front matter.
2. The original Rogue scan places Leo: Diggs, Ben: Ionson, and Ed: Blount around Mabbe’s translation in 1623.
3. The Balliol flyleaf places Mr Mab: and Leo: Digges in a 1613 exchange that explicitly compares Lope with “our Will Shakespeare.”
4. Secord uses that publication and physical-leaf context to argue that I.M. is James Mabbe, while recognizing that the direct Folio witness supplies initials only.
5. The original Crudities scan proves Holland’s substantial 1611 Coryate paratext, while the separate Convivium scholarship supplies the limited Holland/Neville proximity claim.

This convergence is worth developing in Chapter 20 as a documented literary and publication network. It must not be converted into a claim that the group possessed Neville manuscripts or jointly planned the Folio without a direct witness.

Overview

This packet is a source-control map for Ken Feinstein's preserved First Folio tweet threads. It is not a proof packet for the First Folio argument. It should route each tweet claim to a dedicated evidence packet and prevent the broad synthesis claims from being used in book prose without source control.

• What it proves: The First Folio witness itself supplies the title and "true originall copies" claim that later publication-history arguments must account for.
• Limits: The title-page claim is a printed-publisher claim; it does not by itself prove what manuscript copy was used or who supplied it.

2. Jaggard and Blount Imprint

• Source: Same A11954 extraction and Archive/BPL image packet.
• Quotation:

"LONDON Printed by Isaac Iaggard , and Ed. Blount . 1623."

• What it proves: The checked witness directly names Isaac Jaggard and Edward Blount in the First Folio imprint.
• Limits: The imprint does not prove Neville-family financing, manuscript custody, or editorial management.

3. Herbert Dedication Heading

• Source: Same A11954 extraction; Archive/BPL leaf mapping in SOURCE NOTES.
• Quotation:

• What it proves: The First Folio dedication is explicitly framed to the Herbert brothers, William Earl of Pembroke and Philip Earl of Montgomery.
• Limits: Dedication proves patronage/address, not direct Herbert possession of Shakespeare manuscripts.

4. Heminge and Condell's "Orphanes, Guardians" Claim

• Source: Same A11954 extraction and Archive/BPL page-image packet.
• Quotation:

"we haue but collected them"; "to procure his Orphanes , Guardians"

• What it proves: The Folio's own dedicatory prose describes Heminge and Condell as collectors and guardians for the dead author's plays.
• Limits: This is still prefatory rhetoric; it does not independently settle copy provenance or hidden collaboration.

5. Jonson Front-Matter Signatures

• Source: Same A11954 extraction and Archive/BPL page-image packet.
• Quotation:

"B.I."; "BEN : IONSON"

• What it proves: The checked First Folio front matter directly controls both Jonson signatures: the portrait-facing B.I. poem and the longer encomium signed BEN: IONSON.
• Limits: Jonson's signatures prove printed prefatory authorship, not Folio project management or a Neville code.

6. Leonard Digges, Hugh Holland, and I.M. Page-Image Controls

• Source: SOURCE NOTES, Archive/BPL leaves 0017 and 0019.
• Quotation:

• What it proves: The checked page images directly control the visible Folio signatures for Holland, Leonard Digges, and the initials-only I.M. poem.
• Limits: The images do not prove these poets helped compile, finance, or manage the Folio; I.M. remains initials-only in the direct witness.

7. Routing Boundary

• Source: This packet's direct page-image control notes and related dedicated topic packets.
• Quotation:

• What it proves: The First Folio tweet packet is now explicitly a routing layer into dedicated topics and direct image/TCP controls.
• Limits: Broad tweet-thread synthesis should not be cited in final prose until the relevant dedicated packet supplies source-level support.

• Promoted from lead_packet / lead / draft to source_map_packet / mixed / needs_review.
• The verified layer is the basic First Folio bibliographical baseline from current Folger pages.
• The Neville-facing layer remains mixed: some strands now have dedicated evidence packets, while others remain tweet-level or image-led leads.
• A sweep of [local source path removed] for First Folio, Jonson, Herbert, Jaggard, Blount, Walkley, Heminges, Condell, Digges, Mabbe, Holland, Windebank, Sonnets, Othello, Virginia, and posterity found no direct BRO transcription witness for this First Folio synthesis lane. Doc_73 is only grouped as a screenshot of printed Ben Jonson text; no direct Doc_73 Markdown transcription file is currently present.

• Rechecked the owned First Folio/publication batch against [local source path removed]. No new direct BRO witness was found for the First Folio synthesis, the Herbert dedication, Jaggard, Edward Blount, Windebank provenance, or Anne Neville's alleged Folio role.
• Negative BRO controls are meaningful but narrow: there are no Windebank / Windebanke hits and no Jaggard / Iaggard / Astrologomania hits; the Blunt hit is a later Florence letter phrase, S^r H. Blunts order, not Edward Blount; Doc_73 remains removed screenshot metadata, not an archival transcription.
• Rechecked EarlyPrint controls for the owned batch: A11954 controls the First Folio title/dedication layer, A00303 controls the 1610 Healey/Florio/Blunt-Barret issue, A17971 controls the 1624 Astrologomania imprint, A04766 controls the 1622 Anne Neuill dedication layer, and A14521 controls the 1620 Virginia Company accounting list.

Verified Sourced Facts

• Current Folger pages identify the First Folio as the first published collection of Shakespeare's plays, published in 1623, seven years after Shakespeare's death.
• Folger states that the First Folio contains 36 plays, with 18 plays first printed there.
• Folger identifies John Heminge/Heminges and Henry Condell as the former colleagues who gathered the plays.
• Folger's current production summary says the book was published by a London syndicate headed by Edward Blount and Isaac Jaggard, and that William Jaggard printed it before Isaac took over after William's death.
• Current Folger pages state that roughly 750 copies were probably printed and that 235 First Folios are currently known to survive.
• Current Folger pages state that the Folger Shakespeare Library holds 82 First Folios, the largest collection in the world.
