Correction: the cited Neville letters are not verified Winwood texts
The current letters corpus contains texts dated 22 May and 28 July 1600 in which Neville allegedly reports omission of Elizabeth's title “Defender of the Faith,” first from an Archducal passport and later from the Spanish commission. Those texts entered the corpus through an OCR continuation formerly assigned to Winwood volume 1.
Direct image control disproves that attribution. The alleged 22 May text was mapped to printed p. 188, but Winwood's actual p. 188 is the opening of the joint commissioners' dispatch of 20 May, not a Neville letter of 22 May. The suspect OCR continues an invented Book II pagination after Book II has ended and does not transcribe the displayed pages.
The same problem affects the alleged 28 July Neville-to-Cecil text. Winwood's actual close is the joint commissioners' dispatch on printed pp. 225 and 226. It does not contain the title-objection list attributed to Neville.

The verified printed sequence establishes that:
- the English commission and the conference correspondence occupy Book III;
- the commissioners' joint letter of 28 July says the other side held the treaty “still in Continuance,” allowing sixty days for Elizabeth's answer;
- the opposing commissioners departed that afternoon;
- Neville's authentic private letter to Winwood on 29 July says that he accounted the action dissolved.
These points contradict the quarantined continuation's confident statement that all sides treated the treaty as dissolved. The continuation also misidentifies “Fonseca” as a second Spanish commissioner and omits the actual signatory Ferdinando Carillo. Those independent errors make it unsafe to salvage the title passages simply because they sound circumstantially plausible.

This packet therefore preserves the research lead without publishing it as Neville's verified report. The claim can be restored only if a manuscript in SP 78, a contemporary letterbook, or an independently identified printed source supplies the text. Until then, the correct corpus annotation is source not established; do not quote or summarize as fact.
