Transcription by John O'Donnell.

To the right honnorable
Sr. Iulius Cæsar knight
Chauncelor of the excheker
and of his Maties. most
honnorable pryvy councell

Right honnorable. I have sent you the two surveies of Sonning & Bray which it
pleased you to send me downe this summer. Of that of Sonning I made som vse in
the valluing of those copiholds whereof I gave your hor. a note. The other I never
opened, becawse I never heard of young mr. henrie whome you required me to
assist. I do not doubt but to raise his Maties. profit in the mannour of Sonning, to the
full rate of your directions. Neither do I intend to tye my self so exactly to the survey,
which I find faulty in som points allready, but that yf I can learne a better vallue for
the king, I will take yt. your hor: may rest assured, that I will vse my best indeavour to
further your good purposes for his Maties. benefit, and to discharge the trust reposed
in mee.
I have made bold, becawse I can not now attend your hor. my self, by reason that my
colleague and I are to take the musters throughout this whole shire, to send the
warrant I have from his Matie. for the two small leases in Sonning, and the particulars
which I tooke of them from the Auditor allmost three yeeres since. The one of them,
by the east parke is bought of late by Sr. richard Lovelace and therefore I intend not
to meddle with yt, becawse he is my kind neighbour and freend. But for the other, I
humbly desire that the kings graunt vnder his hand and signet, may be available to
mee, as to preferre me to yt before any other, yeelding to his Matie. as much as that
other will give. yf yt please your hor. to do me favour in yt, I shall acknowledge yt with
my best service, and I have given this bearer commission to conclude the bargain for
me, and to follow yt in mine absence. And so remembring my service vnto your hor. I
committe you to the protection of allmighty god. from Pillingbeare the 24th of
September 1608.

your hors. very ready to

be commaunded.
