Transcription by John O'Donnell.

Sr. yor lre of the 20th of May came to my handes the thyrd of June. I have bene
carefull to returne to yor demaunde the best satisfaction I could procure, and have
not spared bothe to searche the storie wch particularly dothe sett downe the
proceedings of the ligne, and to consult wth thoose who now remaine in Paris, whom
I hold not to be ignorant in a cause of that qualitie, in there owne Common wealthe.
But to deale plainely wth you that wch I fynde dothe not satisfie me, and therefore I
assure my selfe can geve you noe certaine direction in those points wherein you
desyre to be resolved. Only this is delivered by the storie, that anno 89. the towne of
Marseilles revolted from the king, mense Januarij, and that yt returned to the
obedience of this king. anno 96. 17o februarij. The king is removed many leagues
from this towne, pretending to iorney to Blois. and to my knowledge there is not at
this present any one of the Counsell here, by whom otherwise I might receave a
more particular informacõn At my next writing or going to the Court I will not forgett to
enquyre of Monsr. de Villeroy of those poynts whoe I thinck is best able to instruct
me therein. And so I hartilie bydde you farewell. from Paris. the 7th. June.

Yor very louing friend.
Henry Neuill.
